Cortijo Son del Rio, is situated at 540 metres close to the village of Canjayar, in the Almerian Alpujarra, about 35 minutes from the town of Almeria.  The cortijo enjoys stunning views of the Sierra Nevada and Sierra de Gador. The cortijo is part of a finca of more than 7000 sq metres of terraces which are planted with olives and fruit trees. Being above the river Andarax there is a rich birdlife.

The main building is 114 sq meters (external)   with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.  In addition there is a utility room, tool shed and covered terrace.  The property contains a second cortijo (approximately 60 sq meters) which is weatherproof and could be converted into self contained accommodation.

The cortijo is  recently built, in the local style, of brick construction, with a flat roof.

Drainage: Septic Tank with deposit for runoff.  Water automatically pumped to irrigate the surrounding terrace.

Television : It is possible to install UK satellite television.

Telephone and Internet:  Broadband internet and telephone connection can be supplied by Iberbanda. Good mobile reception.

The Finca

The land is more than 7000 sq meters.  It consists of a series of terraces planted with olives and fruit -   apricots, peaches, almonds, pomegranates, pears, lemons and oranges.  There is also an avocado tree. There is space for further planting.

The terrace around the house has been planted with a variety of trees, shrubs, flowers and herbs. The terrace immediately below the house has been used as a vegetable garden.




An irrigation system has been installed. This brings irrigation water to every part of the property.  The water is supplied from a water deposit of 135,000 litres (9 x 5 x 3) – big enough to swim in!  The deposit is filled via a pipeline which connects it to the local irrigation water supply.  There is no limit to the supply of water.
